Sultan vs Dangal: Did Salman’s blockbuster force Aamir to change his film’s script?

As Salman Khan’s wrestling-based sports drama Sultan raced to the top of the box office and smashed records left, right and centre, it slowly became obvious that Aamir Khan would have to do something really unique and different with his upcoming film Dangal, that is also based on wrestling.

Earlier, in a media interaction, when Aamir was asked about the similarities in the scripts of Dangal and Sultan, he said, “There are no similarities. Only the aspect of wrestling is common. There are so many films that talk about revenge, so many romantic films. But the story of both our films is different.”

In fact, Salman’s trainer who helped bhai build up a muscular physique for his film also trained Aamir for Dangal.

Now, if reports are to be believed, the PK star got overwhelmed by the success of Sultan, and has, hence, decided to change the climax of his film Dangal.

According to a report in BollywoodLife.com, Aamir has new plans as to what course Dangal should take. Reportedly, Dangal’s USP was supposed to be a female wrestler battling all odds in the ring. But since, Anushka Sharma has already done that with great elan in Sultan, Aamir now wants Dangal to focus exclusively on the father-daughter relationship between his character Mahavir Singh Phogat and his on-screen daughters.

That said, both Sultan and Dangal are very different in their story-lines. While Sultan was the story of one man’s rise to and fall from glory and then, triumph in a different sport which unites him with his love, Dangal is the story of a man raising his daughters to become champion wrestlers of the country.

With Rio Olympics ongoing, Dangal is bound to get a lot of buzz in the trade.

Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra and is scheduled to release on December 23 this year.
