Akshay Kumar’s Rustom has become the actor’s third release this year to gross more than a hundred crore at the box office. On its 9th day, the film produced by Neeraj Pandey, continued its strong, consistent run by notching up Rs 5 crore inspite of new releases like Happy Bhag Jayegi, War Dogs etc.
In fact Khiladi Kumar’s film ate into the collections of the new release, where Happy Bhag Jayegi made only Rs 6.13 crore as on Day 2. This makes Akshay Kumar one of the most bankable stars in the industry, that he made relatively non-mainstream films like Airlift and now Rustom such massive hits.
The film is also the second fastest film of the year to reach the 100 crore-mark after Salman Khan’s monster-hit Sultan which took only 3 days. Rustom is based on the KM Nanavati case of the 1960s, and also stars Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta and Arjan Bajwa in lead roles.
